Beaver Scouts (young people aged between 6 and 8 years old) belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between eight and eight years six months.
We have one Beaver Colony which runs from 6-7pm on Thursdays during school term time.
During the two years that the young people are in the Colony they have the opportunity to have many exciting firsts, whether that is a Campfire with marshmallows, a night hike or a Sleepover with all their friends away from Mum and Dad. We also start to give experiences and adventure to Beavers that they can carry on and improve upon thoughout their Scouting career in Cubs and Scouts and beyond for example, it could be archery, climbing or abseiling. Beavers are organised into Lodges with Lodge leaders, teaching them the basics of leadership and teamwork, starting to build skills to help them for the rest of their lives.
Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. The Beaver motto is Fun and Friendship and their programme reflects this. For the Beaver who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of activity badges they can work for.
We look forward to welcoming you and your son or daughter!
We currently have 6 Beaver leaders. Leaders are assigned names as follows:
